When we started planning the wedding weekend, we wanted it to be fun, memorable, full of dancing, laughs and love. And so we have no strict dress codes or themes. To Ron’s disappointment, Hawaiian Shirts were strongly vetoed as a theme (however rules are made to be broken). For those of you that share Suchita’s love for organisation, we have put together an event guide to aid your planning and to help you get ready for the wedding!
12:00 noon – 16:00
Guests can get mehendi (henna) and experience an Indian market.
There may or may not be a cricket match. Think breezy summery clothes, prints, whites or yellows.
During this event, the Haldi Ceremony for the Bride and Groom will also take place.The Haldi (Hindi for Turmeric) is a pre wedding cleansing and blessing ritual during which ‘the haldi’ is applied to the bride and groom. This is done to purify the soul, protect and bless the soon to be married couple.
19:00 onwards
The Sangeet is often the highlight of any Indian wedding. It is a celebration of the coming together of two families, not just two individuals.
Join us for an evening of dancing, drinking and magic! It is essential to bring your dancing shoes. Feel free to dress as glamorously as you want whether it is Indian formals or western formals.
11:00 - Late Afternoon
This is the day of the sacred hindu ritual of the pheras. The morning kicks off with a grand entrance made by the Groom accompanied by his family and friends. Expect there to be fanfare, music and hangovers from the sangeet.
Once the Groom has had his moment, we will proceed for the Jai Mala (exchange of garlands) which signifies a formal acceptance of each other between the couple. This will be followed by the pheras and lunch. This is a traditional occasion and we would love for your clothing to reflect that.
